Lancaster Castle, Lancaster, Lancashire A Grade I listed building, still used as a court and prison, where you can still see the magnificent heraldic display in the Shire Hall, experience being locked in the dungeons, stand in the dock of the Crown Court from where thousands of prisoners were sentenced to transportation and began their journeys to America or Australia. See the beautiful furniture in the Grand Jury Room where Queen Victoria dined. Visit the 'Drop Room' from where hundreds of condemned prisoners went out on to the gallows in front of the cheering crowds.
