Sherborne Castle

Sherborne Castle, Sherborne, Dorset Built by Sir Walter Raleigh in 1594, Sherborne Castle has been the home of the Digby family since 1617. Prince William of Orange was entertained here in 1688, and George III visited in 1789. Splendid collections of art, furniture and porcelain are on view in the Castle. Lancelot Capability Brown created the lake in 1753 and gave Sherborne the very latest in landscape gardening. The 20-acres of formal borders and rolling landscape make this a wonderful place to explore and to see a variety of wildlife on the 50-acre lake.

Visitors will see Great State Rooms, the Solarium, Library and other fascinating rooms all with magnificent views of the gardens and lake and enjoy the tranquil, unspoilt and unique character of Sherborne Castle. Tudor, Jacobean and Georgian, all the great periods of English history are here.
